Aims

 The purpose is to provide easy and affordable medical services to develop health of populations and carry out related research.

 

Role of PhD Students

Doctoral students will have the role of training, research and  providing services.

 

Professional Tasks of PhD Students

Education Area

- Education of urgent cares to students, nurses and patient companions

- Education of doctoral students in traditional medicine and sharing experiences and findings

- Providing a series of resources on particular subjects

- Contribution to codifying  related educational program

- Teaching educational program and workshops

Research Area

- Investigating  efficiency and using treatment methods on the basis of traditional principles and  approaches to  improving quality

- Making an attempt to update diagnostic ways in traditional medicine with utilization of facilities and modern technology

Services

-Examination, diagnosis and treatment of disease on the basis of Traditional Iranian Medicine

- Assessing treatment progress  through a set of information in traditional and classical medicine

- Doing activity management in related areas.

- Providing consulting services  to students, nurses, patients, and patient companions that is specific to prevention of disease

General Educational Strategies

Administrative Strategies of this program embrace a wide variety of student-based methods, problem solution, contribution to providing texts, and examination of issues with statement of the problem.

In order to achieve above- mentioned strategies, the followings will be taken into consideration:

-Choosing potential candidates

- Presenting initial education and prerequisites

- Practical and theoretical teaching

- Providing opportunities in a research-based experience

- Providing opportunities  for scientific issues and contribution to teaching

- Assessment of quality education and planning for removing shortcomings and improving it

Qualification and Admission Process

-Passing the entrance examination according to principles of health treatment and medical education

-Receiving the Doctor of Medicine or Clinical Specialty Degrees

Related Majors in Foreign Universities

Majors similar to traditional medicine are recognized in China, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sir Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, yet there is a limit in western countries. Likewise, Natural  Medicine is instructed in Canada.

-In addition to course credits  , students are required to take a maximum of 16 make up lessons recognized by the education system and  approved by university graduate council.

In addition to course units, the student is required to take a maximum of 16 make up courses recognized by the education system and approved by university graduate council.

Taking the related course is compulsory for all students who haven’t passed it before.

For taking 2 credits of  the said courses related to the subject of the thesis, the candidate is expected to seek the approval of supervisor as well as university graduate council.

 

 Traditional Pharmacy

Medicinal plants ,with a long brilliant history in Iran,  have a significant role in disease prevention and treatment, in which case it can solve many medical problems alongside modern medicine. Likewise, WHO ( World Health Organization) recognizes health service and native pharmacy as the most appropriate way for having access to safe and affordable medicine.

All in all, conditions and capabilities of current community in Iran along with historical background and emphasis of global scientific societies, including WHO, on  traditional treatments provide certain guidelines to help population. Consideration also has been given to use  traditional medicine property's

 

It should be noted that regarding this history and  establishment of faculty of traditional medicine  in Babol University of Medical Sciences,  traditional pharmacy with specialty related fields has commenced admitting PhD students. In addition, it comprises research design and investigates the efficiency of traditional products in the form of a thesis. A maximum of PhD credits is 48 credits composed of 24 credits  of core course, 2 credits of non core courses and 22 credits for thesis which has been approved by ministry of health. It is also presented in the following tables.`

Students are required to take 2 credits of these  non core courses suggested by the education system and are approved by university graduate council.

 

Eventually, Doctoral graduates play a significant role in educational and research activities.

The educational affairs can be considered as follows:

-Education of specialists in this given area with the aim of teaching general and specialty units  to PhD students

- Providing specialty texts

- Education of herbal medicine manufacturers

- Providing an effective lesson plan

- Teaching and giving fresh knowledge to pharmacy graduates regarding traditional products in the form of education workshops

 

Likewise, The followings are regarded as research affairs in this area :

-Correcting medical and traditional pharmaceutical texts

- Collecting information about medicinal plants in order to being used

- Research on production of medicine derived traditional medicine resources and also carrying out shared research with manufactures of medicinal plants with the aim of solving their  problems related to traditional pharmacy

- Writing articles from research design and publishment in valid scientific bases
